Showcasing EP
Seafood. Liz was a guest politician cook at the recent
Adelaide Home Show's Pollie-Cook-Off. A self confessed 'non' chef,
Liz enticed her friends, retired chefs Frank & Julia Lee to assist her
with the finer details (like actually cooking!!). They wowed the
audience with 2 dishes, Liz's Steamed Abalone with Ginger and Wine &
Liz's Mussel Broth in Coriander & Lemongrass while Liz extolled the
virtues of the fabulous seafood we produce on Eyre Peninsula.

Faulty Mobile Handsets
Under the Trade Practices Act, customers who buy a phone have a
legal right to expect it to work as promised, to last a reasonable
amount of time and to be fit for the purpose for which it was
sold. These rights are automatically applied to all goods sold in
Australia and sellers cannot avoid their obligations by claiming
they do not offer warranties.
According to complaints received by ACCC & the Telecommunications
Industry Ombudsman, some businesses are refusing to service or
replace customers' faulty mobiles on the grounds that their
express warranty offered by the phone manufacturer, has 'expired'
or does not apply. Those businesses are mistakenly taking the
conditions spelled out in the express warranty information as the
entire extent of their customers' rights.

Be aware of a fraudulent email circulating stating it is from Revenue SA.
The false email states 'Dear Applicant, after the last annual calculation
of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive
a tax refund of $394.23.' It will also ask for your personal
details and credit card numbers. It comes complete with the SA Government
logo.
Revenue SA do not send emails to people asking for this information.
Visit
http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/ for more information regarding this scam as
well as other consumer information.
Scams:
unfortunately we are all forwarded letters and appeals for financial
assistance for people in difficult circumstances from time to time.
Recently a handwritten letter together with a copied "letter of
authenticity" was sent to Liz from a "Ugandan AIDS orphan".
This letter appeared to be 'different' in that it was obviously not typed
or photocopied. Nevertheless it is a scam. If you receive a
suspect letter - please refer it to the Australian Competition & Consumer
Commission for verification. Visit
www.scamwatch.gov.au for

Burma relief effort
Following the devastating cyclone that hit Burma earlier this year
Liz made a personal donation to assist in the relief effort.
Liz had travelled into Burma in August 2007 when she visited an
orphanage and she was very keen to ensure that these children were
helped as much as possible.
Recently Liz was sent the picture left with a note to say that the
balance of the money from her donation went towards the purchase
of a small sampan for villagers who lived in the delta area hit by
the cyclone. The sampan has been named Geoff and Liz! |
