$300,000 to fishing facilities Cowell, Arno Bay, Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln are winners in Round 5 of the Recreational Fishing Community Grants Program. Member for Flinders Liz Penfold said the injection of almost $300,000 to coastal and boating facilities recognises the tourism activity in the region, along with the high number of local recreational boat owners and the fantastic work of local councils and volunteers. She said the grants were part of the Australian Government’s $15 million contribution over three years for projects that enhance recreational fishing opportunities and activities in fresh and salt water. Applicants have to provide at least half the cost of a project. “I congratulate all the people who have been involved in these successful applications that will add to the enjoyment of our wonderful region.” she said. Individual projects are: District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula $100,000: Coffin Bay Boat Ramp Replacement – replacing the existing boat ramp with three floating pontoons to create more lanes for launching and retrieving boats. Arno Bay Estuary Boardwalk Project $82,500: An additional 750 metres of platform to take recreational users to the mouth of the estuary, protecting sandhills, mangroves and allowing for recreational fishing.
