Call to
“fast track” desalination for Ceduna |
|
Mrs Penfold repeated the necessity for action during her visit to Ceduna and districts with the SA Farmers Federation (SAFF) drought tour. “The poor quality of water currently provided to Ceduna is costing everyone – farmers, businesses, the poor, the disabled, families - millions of dollars in blocked and corroded pipes and hot water services. “It’s unacceptable now and for future mining and marina development,” she said. Mrs Penfold said the Cynergy desalination proposal will provide plentiful good quality water with almost no environmental impact as it will use solar and existing wind energy, with the waste going into Cheetham Salt salt pans at Kevin. “It’s a win-win project all round and it’s time for the state government to act,” she said.
