Disability services on the agenda
9th March 2003

Christopher Pyne, Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister for Family and Community Services, has a busy schedule visiting community and disability groups in Port Lincoln on Friday 19th March.

LEPSH is first on the agenda, where Mr Pyne will meet with the manager John Streeter, management chairperson Moira Shannon and members of the Compass employment program workers and gangs.

Staff and clients of the Moving on Program will explain the project, and conduct a visit to the chicken and egg farm being established at Little Swamp.

At Port Lincoln Community House, which has been approved for a Federal Stronger Families & Communities Grant, coordinator Anita Taylor, chairperson Frank Johnson and project officer Olga Alexandra will explain the set-up and introduce volunteers.

A visit to the proposed and current supported accommodation for people with specific disabilities will complete the itinerary.

Mr Pyne, who is the Federal Member for Sturt, assists the Minister, Kay Patterson, in her portfolio.  He has responsibility to guide the reform process for Business Employment Services (perhaps better known to most Australians as sheltered workshops), started under Jocelyn Newman when the Coalition came to government in 1996.

Mr Pyne will be the guest speaker at the Port Lincoln Branch of the Liberal Party on Thursday the 18th at 8 pm.  The public meeting at the Port Lincoln Yacht Club will follow the branch annual meeting and a barbecue tea.

Also attending is the Member for Flinders Liz Penfold.
