BUDGET 2001-02 HOUSING Member for Flinders Liz Penfold said the ongoing problem of housing for transient and homeless Aboriginal people at Ceduna will be addressed through an allocation of $160,000 in the 2001 Budget. “The money will integrate community planning for the accommodation and service needs of these people,” she said. Mrs Penfold said $8.2 million for Aboriginal housing projects will build 15 new homes, purchase 12 homes and renovate a further 115 across the State. Funding of just on $80 million for the SA Housing Trust will build 200 new homes, buy 20, upgrade 1400 and also continue urban regeneration programs including Lincoln Gardens at Port Lincoln. The Crisis Accommodation Program (which includes women’s and youth shelters) receives $5.2 million. In addition, the South Australian Community Housing Authority will provide finance to Community Housing Organisations to build 62 new homes, buy 13 and renovate 220. This $25.5 million program is funded through recurrent grants. Mrs Penfold said all these projects assisted the most needy in the community. |
