2001-02 BUDGET BUS CONCESSIONS
5 JUNE 2001

Country bus operators and passengers are both winners in the State Budget.

Member for Flinders Liz Penfold said the abolition of route licence fees paid by country bus operators will save operators $300,000 a year.

“Until now, country bus operators, unlike metropolitan bus operators, have paid 2.5% of their revenue each year for a licence,” she said.

Other allocations are $150,000 to assist country bus operators promote services to the local community and to tourists, and $30,000 to investigate opportunities to increase freight services utilising the country bus network.

Mrs Penfold welcomed the granting of a 50% ticket concession to unemployed people who travel on country bus services in South Australia.

“This undertaking honours a commitment made in the 1997 Liberal Passenger Transport Policy and is an important social equity measure,” she said.
